Reader Question: Where are the best walking/hiking trails near Green Valley, excluding Madera Canyon?

We're answering community questions from readers collected from our Community Conversation Survey!

Today’s question is: Besides Madera Canyon, where are the best walking and hiking trails near Green Valley?

Using data collected from Pima County Natural Resources Parks and Recreation, the  U.S. Forest Service, and All Trails, I created a map that shows 20 hiking trails around Green Valley and Sahuarita (Yes, Madera Canyon is represented as well for those who are interested.)

You can zoom in on the area and look at specific locations (locations aren't always exact), and click into each trail to see more information about the features and amenities.

The trails are marked by color based on difficulty. The trails marked in green are easy, the trails marked in yellow are moderate, the trails marked in red are difficult, and the trails marked in black are undetermined.

Some of the markers have trail websites attached to the them that provide more information.

A few trails require permits, so always double check with local agencies before heading out.

If you're looking for a hiking group in the area, be sure to check out the Green Valley Recreation Hiking Club

View the map here, and let me know if you have any questions, or if you know of other trails that you think I should add to the map!

Did you catch the lunar activity?

Did you see the  “Super Flower Blood Moon” this Wednesday?

I'd love to see your photos since I missed it. Share away and let us know if you did anything special to get your photo. I always seem to struggle with photos of the moon.

Are there any other cool phenomena you've caught in space, like meteors or solar eclipses?

Spring blooms!

These vivid pinks blooms caught Mike Reynolds' attention outside the GVR Rec Center at Casa Paloma II. "I think this is now my favorite cactus bloom color," he says.

What is your favorite flower bloom this spring?
