Hello Naburs,

I'm working on a story about House Bill 2224  which would make it illegal to declaw cats. If passed, it would ban pet owners from declawing cats and veterinarians who perform the procedure would face license suspension.

Those who are for the ban have stressed that declawing involves removing a portion of the cat's digit, a bone in their toe. The procedure can cause pain and health issues for cats.

Those who oppose the bill say the choice should be up to pet owners and could potentially dissuade some people from adopting cats.

Here's an article that lays out some of the pros and cons to declawing cats, as well as how it is done and what alternatives are.

What are your thoughts on declawing cats?
