Farmers Investment Co. announced Wednesday that the processing plant and the iconic pecan-related gift shop are closing their doors because of growing costs, putting around 130 people out of work.

Processing at the plant will continue into December, and The Pecan Store will remain open until the first quarter of 2022.

High tariffs, competition from Mexican pecan processors, and the financial impact from COVID-19 are significant factors in the company's decision.
